Going the Distance
Go me, I've started "running" again.
I would say I'm embarrassed by that time right there, but I legitimately walked at least one of those miles. I'm trying to ease back in here folks!
Turns out, when you're an employee of a big fancy state university you get your own not-so-big fancy gym to work out in for free. Our student gym is legendary so the staff one is slightly put to shame by all of the rock walls and indoor basketball and tennis courts. No matter, all I ever really do is stretch, treadmill, yoga ball/medicine ball/mat stuff and more stretch. I guess I could do most of that at home, eh? But, we don't have a tv... or a treadmill... Gym it is!
Anyhow, I used to run and yoga all of the time and have always fancied myself fairly athletic. But in the past two years I have really just not. So it feels pretty great to be back in the saddle as it were. Last night J taught me some moves with the free-weights (the section of the gym I have always been terrified of) so we will see if I keep that up. I have tiny chicken arms that are easily strained by 5 pounds so I know I SHOULD use the weights more... We will see.
You know the one big problem with working out? I now want to EAT all of the time.

I'm Seeing Signs
While browsing home the decor section of about 5 different stores recently (a weekly activity), I came across these two adorable signs. I definitely want to steal the ideas and try to make them at home, in some semblance.
I would have just bought this one as I think it sums the hubs and I up fairly well... BUT it looked kind of cheap and plasticy and I'm pretty confident I can make my own more "beach authentic" looking version. We will see, I have high hopes and big dreams and then when it comes to actually making things like this, but then I always avoid the work. I don't know why I do that to myself. Anyhow, I am in the SLOW process of converting our guest room from what we currently call "grandma's attic chic" to beach themed, so I am into this one big time.
Do you guys have Kirkland's? When we lived in California the only Kirkland's I knew about was Kirkland's Signature store brand products at Costco. That is NOT what I am talking about. Here in the South (and I'm assuming elsewhere?) there is a discount home good's store that I can literally peruse for hours. Some of the stuff in there is like, whoa! But generally there is a major score or two lurking around.
I thought these two framed pics were too great. Check the price on the one on the left! I should have just bought them but I have no use for them. I think they would be precious on the entrance to closet doors or on a double vanity but we don't really have those situations up in the Ford household. Good inspiration though, right?

Handmade with Love
You know what's great about getting married (besides the being married part, of course)? Getting wedding gifts for months and months after! YES! Especially when they are handmade with love.
Imagine our delight when we received this incredibly beautiful crocheted blanket in the mail just a month ago. My mom's best friend Susan made it with her own two hands for us, isn't that the sweetest? She also helped with all of the set-up of our reception during the wedding itself and it would have probably been a disaster zone without her.
This sweet blanket is a special item we will have for the rest of our lives that makes me feel loved every time I snuggle up under its warmth. Getting this beautiful gift (accompanied by a beautiful note) reminded me how the act of giving with thought and purpose is such a huge blessing to others.
Thank you Susan, you inspire me to be more giving of myself everyday!

New Year's Eve in Memphis
For this past New Year's Jonathon and I were fortunate enough to get to travel with his team to Memphis for the Liberty Bowl against the Georgia Bulldogs.
While it was a bit of a whirlwind, we sure had a good time. I flew in from LA where I had visited family and attended my Grandmother's' funeral and I sure missed my honey buns while I was gone. Besides him working a lot while in Memphis, I also had the flu so the majority of my time was spent watching free hotel HBO. Have you ever seen the movie Good Hair? You should...
While we spent the majority of the time in the hotel or on a bus, of course we had to get some Memphis bbq at world famous Corky's.

Finally the day of the game arrived. It was a bit ominous looking with 70% chance of rain and yours truly sniffling into her huge stash of kleenex. The view as we arrived to the Librerty Bowl...
Don't worry about it, these are just our police motorcade escorts...
UCF UKNIGHT!
There's a handsome man looking through binoculars up there... Wonder who he's looking for?? I'll give you a hint. It was me :)
Some of the other coaches doin the damn thing...
Apparently the Liberty Bowl invited Homecoming Queens from all over the country to be honored at half time. There were a LOT of white dressed teenaged girls out there.
And our own national ranked cheerleaders (I think we're 3rd place, but hey that's still pretty good, right?) and dance team with sweet hair art.
Our half-time entertainment... The O'Jays!

One happy coaches wife! RIGHT as the game ended about 30 seconds after this photo, the sky opened up and it absolutely poured. I am SO grateful the rain waited until after the game. UCF Wins! 2010 Conference and Bowl CHAMPS BABY!!!

Belated Christmas Wrap-Up Part 2
I know we are almost onto Valentine's Day (jeez, where does the time go???) but I have yet to finish my wrap-up of Christmas and New Years!
This was the first year in 5 that J and I just spent Christmas day at home together, not driving all over town trying to fit 20 people and 20 agendas in on one stressful day. It was super relaxing and cozy to just be together with our little family.
For his gift this year, I got him a fancy Covert Ops watch for maximum timetelling capabilities no matter what elements he may be facing... He was jazzed.
He got me some furry cozy boots to keep my little tootsies warm in these frigid Florida winters ;)
Jonathon made me this sweet card. Because the people on it didn't originally look like us, he made sure they did look JUST like us. Some might see this as creepy, but I think it's super sweet :)
When we first started celebrating Christmas together all those years ago, we decided to allow our ornament collection to slowly grow over the years. Since then, Jonathon and I have exchanged one ornament a year, you'd be surprised how quickly that tree filled up!
Joy to the World indeed! Even though this past Christmas is LONG gone, the good news is that the next one is now only 10 months away... :D
