Pleased to Meet you, Hope You Guess My Name

Hello World!

My name is Mrs. Ford and I am madly in love with my husband of two weeks. His name is Jonathon and I think he is just amazing. See:

Although we have only been married a short time, we have been friends since 1998 and we dated for five years before gettin hitched. We believe that life is a journey and we feel so blessed to be sharing the ride with one another and with our baby boy Teeny.

Jonathon is my best friend. Did I mention I love being his wife and feel blessed every day?

One of the most exciting, overwhelming, enjoyably creative parts of our 12 year journey together was planning our beautiful wedding this year. We tried to make it as "us" as possible by using handmade details that held personal sentiment and by keeping our dear friends and family in mind every step of the way. This blog has been a destination for my ideas and inspirations regarding our wedding planning but it has also been a journal of sorts on the continual joining of our lives.

Before becoming Mrs. Ford I was a high school art teacher in downtown Los Angeles. Because of my creative background and educator organizational skills, planning a wedding of my own was a very natural fit. I loved having a direct outlet for all of my zany DIY craft projects with a very real deadline... 3/28/10!

Now that the wedding is in our rear view mirror, we have set our sights on a new hometown destination. Because we get bored if our lives aren't too hectic, we are taking a cross-country road trip as we move our lives and things to Orlando, Florida! Oh yea, and we're moving this week!

Although we are both true die-hard Angelenos at heart, and always will be, we chose to move to Orlando so that Jonathon can continue to further his career as a college football coach. We also love a good adventure.

While I am not sure what Orlando has in store for me career-wise, I know that I am ready for something a bit different and I know that I have a great outlet here for all of my ideas. With the wedding only two weeks behind us and no professional wedding pictures yet shared, there will still be plenty more blog posts about our wedding events and details. Besides real wedding inspirations, I will continue to post about design, style and all things DIY or handmade. Of course there will also be updates about our road trip, new home, new jobs and new East Coast lives.

It has truly been a blessing to be able to share so many of my ideas and inspirations on this site. I hope you continue to stick around because this is only the beginning!

Succulents for Sale on Etsy

Now that the DIY festivities are over and we are attempting to move across the country (more info to come soon, I swear), we are putting all of our much loved wedding succulents back on the market. If you are interested in any of the following and you have the means to pick them up in the Los Angeles area, please email me at becomingmrsford{at}gmail{dot}com.

Just in time for spring... our itemz up for sale are:

18.5 inch handmade moss and living succulent wreaths for $40 each (I have 4 available) or $150 for all four. These wreaths require little to no maintenance and live on and on for years. They can be added to for a fuller succulent look and can also be hung from ribbon from your door, etc.

Also for sale are eight (all different varieties) 6 inch wide, two and a half quart, potted succulents for $6 each or all eight for $40. Currently the plastic pots are wrapped in burlap and ribbon ready to be displayed but they would also love to be permanently planted in your yard or in an actual ceramic pot in your home.

Finally, for sale are three succulent arrangements in antique brass containers. The two larger arrangements are 40 inches long, 6 inches wide (and the brass is 4 inches high although the succulents add a good deal of height) and the third arrangement is 30 inches long, 5 inches wide and also 4 inches tall.

The two large hand-arranged planters are $80 each and the one small arrangement is $60. Or, you could be the happy owner of all three for the low low price of $180 for all three.

These arrangements require little to no maintenance. They can be trimmed for a neater or more manicured look. They would be best as indoor decorations or if outside, they should be kept in a shaded spot so the metal containers do not overheat the plants' roots.

Happy shopping! More handmade and customizable items are available on my BRAND NEW Etsy site as well, so make sure to check back in frequently at www.etsy.com/shop/becomingmrsford as I add more and more!

Family and Friends Time

When planning our wedding, one very important element for us was that the wedding not just be one long hectic day, but rather a whole weekend to celebrate with our nearest and dearest. This was one of the reasons, besides the budget obviously, that we decided to keep the guest count under 90 people, and this was also one of the reasons we chose to have a pseudo-destination-wedding. We chose Palm Springs because it was driving distance from LA for those who could not stay longer, but it was also far enough away for people to stop and stay a while.

Most of our close friends and family got to Palm Springs on the Wednesday before our Sunday wedding. Because everyone came early and all of our wedding plans were already completed, Jonathon and I were able to just relax and celebrate for an entire week with the wedding being the exclamation point in the middle of all the fun.

I really can't express enough how great it was to spend so much time with our best friends and families before the big day. We just felt so surrounded by love and positivity, it was so special.

On Wednesday night my best friend Lindzee and her husband Erik got into town first and we took them out to eat at a local Mexican restaurant called El Gallito. If you are in the Coachella Valley I highly recommend you stop and have some huevos rancheros. It was great to see their beautiful faces and talk a while, but also it really made the whole thing feel real. We were geared up and ready to rock!

On the Thursday night before our Sunday wedding Jonathon and I both celebrated our bachelor and bachelorette parties in a big way. (Pics and post to come shortly, I promise). You can imagine though how fab it was to have the entire day Friday to recuperate and do absolutely nothing. We started off the day with my dad, stepmom, big bro and little bro and sis at breakfast and then spent the day just hanging out by the pool at the Ace Hotel with everyone we love. It was one of the best decisions we could have made regarding our wedding weekend. We had an absolute blast lounging around and catching up with all of our friends.

I also got to celebrate my lil bro's 10th birthday in person!

After all of that fun in the sun Jonathon and I got all of our friends together and took them all out to one of our favorite restaurants in Palm Springs for a pre-party before hitting the bars again together. Luckily all of our friends became friends and we pretty much had a perfect day and night.

For Jonathon and I both, our friends are like family to us, so spending time with them around our wedding day was such a huge deal. Besides all of the time at the bars and parties and events, just sitting around in our hotel rooms with our friends and family was some of the best memories we both have from our wedding. I felt like a beautiful bride because I had a groom waiting for me, but also because I had all of my favorite people around me too.

Our Wedding Ceremony

So here we are on the other side of our breathtaking wedding ceremony... it feels so surreal. So much amazingness (and craziness) happened before our actual wedding ceremony that I feel totally weird starting out of order. I am starting with the ceremony, however, because it was the most important part, and none of the rest would have been were there not a wedding to celebrate!

Before I go into the details of the day, here you go... our first moments together as husband and wife:

Have you ever seen two people more excited about life? I felt about 3 miles high above the Earth at that moment.

After looking back over the video that my cousin Rob shot of our entire ceremony (Thank God, I love you Rob), it has come to my attention that our ceremony must have been near 45 minutes long. However, at the time, I felt like it went by in less than 5 minutes. When I heard the wedding march start and walked through the doors of the church with my father, all time stood still for a few seconds and I really have no idea how I made it from the back of the church to the front. I swear my feet weren't moving. It was complete tunnel-vision and some sort of crazy time-warp. After those few moments though, when I finally had Jon's hands in mine and I could look him in the eye without tulle everywhere, it felt very real and I felt like I was home. I will never forget that moment as long as I live.

The ceremony itself was just so beautiful but there are really only a few specific snippets of it that I remember clearly. At the rehearsal the day prior we practiced the "I will" portion of the ceremony. Our service was an Episcopal one in which all of the guests participate by saying "we will" and during our rehearsal the priest gave the guests a hard time about not being loud enough. On the wedding day itself, the " I wills" came fairly quickly in the ceremony and I was still a bit nervous from my walk in. When my time came I squeaked my "I will" out and then it was our guests turn, at which point they all YELLED "WE WILL" which completely cracked me up and relaxed me a lot too.

After the "i wills" we were all able to sit down for the music and readings and that made me feel even more in the moment. J and I got to sit in the back a bit, so I really felt like we were getting some moments alone. I had missed Jonathon so much all day and it had been such a whirlwind getting to the church that I was so happy to be able to sit with him and tell him how handsome he was and to just take the whole thing in. Because we were being naughty and talking (we whispered I swear) I missed most of our first solo "Faith, Hope and Love," but I listened during the readings and during the homily.

One of the most memorable moments for our guests most likely came during our homily (basically the part where the priest talks or tells a story). Unfortunately (or maybe fortunate for a good stories sake), our priest completely stopped in mid-sentence, turned to our stunned photographer Ariel who was halfway to the back of the church and said "excuse me but could you please put your camera away because I'm finding myself very distracted." Which, of course, came out very nicely but completely distracted me and I'm sure most of the guests from whatever the heck he was talking about. His homily made no sense to me on the day of the wedding, I think my mind was already in 5 million places, and then once he said that I was a bit shocked, but looking back on the videos he actually did a real good job. :)

There were only three times that I cried during our ceremony and I was very proud of myself for not being a total wreck. Part of the reason that I was not a complete mess, I am sure, is because I did not have much time prior to the ceremony to sit in the church and wait and ponder the intensity of what was about to happen. Although Jonathon was right on time to the church at 2:30 for a 4pm ceremony (he said to me, "babe, it was game day, you know how I am"), I on the other hand was still getting beautiful at 2:30 and managed to get to the church at exactly 3:58pm. This timing is the source of my only regret about our entire wedding weekend. Looking back, I think it worked out perfectly, but I felt a bit guilty for not being there earlier to simmer. I wanted a solid 15 minutes to sit and be calm, but I also know myself and am the type of person that gets overwhelmed and starts sobbing when given too much time to consider such things. At 3:45 however (unbeknownst to me, the watch-less bride), us girls were still at our hotel taking bridal portraits. Those pictures better be DAMN HOT is all I can say because I had a hard time being ok with my tardiness. Once I got to the church everything happened boom boom boom. I'm sure that I was actually in the bride's room for about 10 minutes before I walked out into the ceremony but it all felt like a split second. The wedding coordinator asked me if I was ready and I asked for a few minutes and when she came back 30 seconds later I was ready... I wanted to see my honey.

Anyhow! Cry #1 happened on the way down the aisle, although I was fighting it so hard because I really wanted to see everything and not be a blubbering mess. Cry #2 happened when we were seated listening to our incredibly talented pianist and soloist Brent Reynolds play our second song "Better Is One Day". This song and the readings were the only parts of our ceremony that were personal to us, so sitting there on my wedding day, holding hands with my fiance for the last few moments before we married one another and listening to that beautiful song was such a breathtaking moment. I felt so amazing. I bet you can guess when cry #3 came... During the vows. I have no idea if anyone heard a word that came out of my mouth because it was pretty intense saying them and hearing them, but I think we did fairly well. I will never forget that moment either. :)

After the vows we were blessed and we all prayed and then when we stood up, TAH DAH! WE WERE MARRIED! Next came one of the best parts of the whole shindig, I got to kiss my brand new husband! It was a real good kiss too. :) On our walk out I finally looked around at all of our guests and got to see so many beautiful smiles. I couldn't look around the church during our ceremony because I knew I would loose it and start sobbing if I looked much. I think the only people I made eye contact with besides Jonathon were my brother and our bridal party. After the service the new Mr. and Mrs. Ford took a minute alone in the bridal room and just sort of stared at each other and asked if either of us could believe that had just really happened.

Those 45 minutes were some of the best of my whole life. I can not wait to get our professional photographs back from the ceremony (from before our photographers got banned) because I know they are going to be AMAZING. In the meantime, here are a few candid shots of husband and wife stepping out into the world for the first time together.

There was this crazy transformative moment as we said our vows that took us from two separate people in love to one person in union for life. I really thought I was going to feel all kinds of different at that moment, like being struck with lightening or something, but it didn't, I just felt supremely happy. Over the past week however, I have noticed that it feels very different to be married than it did to be a loving couple. There's this permeating calm that I have never felt before, it's very wonderful, and I also feel closer than I thought possible to my new husband. To me, that commitment is one of the most amazing things a person can do with their life. I just feel so blessed to have the life that I do.

Two Became One

Holy cow! What a magical crazy whirlwind week... and guess what? We're married!!! I am officially, legally, spiritually changed, but you and I both know the vows were just the beginning of becoming Mrs. Ford. We will be getting to that, but in the meantime, Happy Easter to you, I hope yours was hoppin! (I am stoked that our anniversary will be exactly one week before Easter every year, can you tell?).

So... I know you are all after the details, and I promise I will get to all of the DIY deliciousness, but in the meantime I just wanted to say, I'm baaaaaaaaaack and to tell you that I had the, hands down, most amazing week of my life and that I am still walking on sunshine.

I swear our wedding day never felt real. I am still staring at pictures and watching videos on repeat just to make sure it all actually happened. I felt so overwhelmed by love from our friends and family the entire week, everything went smoothly, the ceremony and reception were just beautiful, the weather was perfect, nothing was negative for a whole week. Most importantly though, I exchanged some very serious words and rings with my best friend... and now we're one for life.

That's pretty amazing.

I know this post is incredibly corny and I'm sure if you talked with me in the last week or so I sounded like a walking Hallmark card, but words are really failing to describe the sensations going on in my body of late. Grrrar. Get your heads out of the gutter, you know what I mean! I'm in love!

I will be posting on the wedding weekend events this week, and will get to the bittier details soon enough, so bear with my gushing for a week would ya? I'm a newlywed for goodness sake!

L-O-V-E, it does crazy things to you...
